We should just go back to living in caves and grunting

By the flaming curmudgeon

This is just some of the stupidest shit I have ever read.

Here’s the simple rule, folks, spelling and grammar ALWAYS count.  PERIOD.  Hey, let’s just abolish schools completely.  Why bother trying to teach anyone anything?  If there is no standard of correctness then I just don’t get it how we can communicate.  I don’t believe in the anything goes theory of “oh, why make such a fuss, if it’s spelled wrong — you know what I mean.”  Maybe I do, maybe I don’t.  But wouldn’t it make more sense if you were CLEAR about your meaning so it’s not up to ME to decide what you mean?  My blood boils.  There are only 26 letters in the English alphabet.  And they can be combined many ways.  And it is not so demanding to expect a person to try and learn how to spell words.

This makes my blood boil too! Not wrong, just variant spelling – what a stupid idea. I love the quote at the end “In the 21st century, why learn by heart rote spelling when you can just type it into a computer and spell-check?” Because you are not USING a computer now! The same argument can be made for calculators too. When we are not using technology we still need to be accurate! If what you are saying matters, then the way you say it matters too! I must stop now before I explode…

I am so glad you feel the same way! And spellcheck doesn’t correct a word that is spelled correctly but is NOT the word you mean. There, their, they’re. All spelled correctly and not picked up by spellcheck. Yet they mean many different things. I’m a stickler and always will be and I am happy to know that you appreciate the importance and significance of language. It is a privilege to have you in my circle.
